The Tri-City Valley Cats, which play in the New York - Penn League (NYPL), is the Short-Season A affiliate of the Houston Astros. They play at Joseph L. Bruno Stadion which was opened on the HVCC Campus in 2002, located in Troy.

The Valley Cats play in the Stedler Division of the New York-Penn League.

The Valley Cats have several mascots, Southpaw, Sammy Baseball, Pappy Southpaw, Zoggy, Spiedie, Hot Dogs, and Tooth Fairy. The most prominent are Southpaw and Sammy Baseball.

Prior to their arrival in Troy, the club was based in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where they were the Pittsfield Astros in 2001 and the Pittsfield Mets from 1989 to 2000, and in Little Falls, New York, where they played as the Little Falls Mets from 1977 to 1988.
