IN THE CASKET

Upstate New York's IN THE CASKET was formed in the spring of 2006 in the city of Mechanicville. The original lineup featured Justyn Saunders/drums, Shawn Rosko/vocals, Dave Yaiser/bass, and Roy Divan and Jeff Dragonette/ guitars. They formed with 1 goal in mind; to create a brutal, complex, dramatic, and extreme heavy metal sound. They would combine the vast array of influences of each member of the band into one unique sound, and leave absolutely nothing on the floor.

After writing several songs and playing a handful of shows, it became clear that the band was taking their sound in a different sound than Jeff. They soon decided that a mutually beneficial parting of ways was necessary, after playing together for nearly a year. The first answer for the second guitar spot would come in the winter of 2007, when the band enlisted the axe-wielding services of and old friend, Kyle Hendrikson. It was during this period with Kyle on guitar that the band started acquiring a strong local following, which became evident when the band won the local Metroland magazine's 2008 Readers Poll "Metal Band of the Year" award without even realizing they were on the ballot!

Unfortunately,it was also during this period that Dave's interests began to stray from that of the rest of the group, and within a few months Dave left the band to pursue other interests. It was the first of several unfortunate events that would threaten to derail ITC. After his departure, the band was able to briefly fill the void at bass by enlisting the services of another good friend, the extremely talented Travis Morgan. Both Kyle and Travis would depart the band, however, in the winter of 2008; Kyle, for personal reasons, and Travis, to pursue a career as a session bassist.

After their departures, it was decided that a return to the fundamentals of the IN THE CASKET sound was necessary for the band to survive, and to that end, they were able to re-enlist the services of original bassist Dave. But something else was missing; ITC is a two-guitarist outfit, and another axe-weilder was needed. Fortunately, the band would not have to wait long. After trying out a few different people in the spot, Dave came up with a solution. That solution was Dane Houshower, a good friend of Dave's brother.  In the young and talented guitarist, the band finally found the missing link to completing their sound, achieving a tightness and precision like never before. Almost immediately, Dane had learned the entire ITC back catalog, and the band began churning out new songs showcasing their style. Unfortunately, the addition of Dane would be Dave's final contribution to IN THE CASKET, as he once again chose to pursue other interests.

Even without a bassist, the band easily soldiered on, completing their latest 3-song Ep/Demo with the assistance of a very familiar face; namely, former guitarist Kyle Hendrikson. Kyle would not only engineer and produce the band's latest work, but also contributed bass tracks for all three songs on the Ep.With the new lineup and no shortage of fresh songs and song ideas, nothing but good things seem to be ahead for the band that 518Fever.com voted the 2009 "Metal Band of the Year".
