Coeymans
The Basics
The Town of Coeymans was founded in 1639 and later formed from part of the Town of Watervliet in 1791. In 1815, part of the town was used to make the new Town of Westerlo.Coeymans is named after an early settler, who was the patent-holder for the area. The Town of Coeymans is in the southeast part of the county.
Barent Pieteres Koijemans first arrived in 1639 from Holland. He became an apprentice at a mill owned by the Van Rensselaers. After changing his name to Barent Peterse Coeymans he purchased the land and obtained a patent in 1673 officially forming the town of Coeymans.
The Lowdown
Moderately priced housing and decent tax prices make Coeymans ideal for a home shopper. Although the area is a little bit on the outskirts of Albany city life that can be ideal for someone looking to build a nice foundation in a nice are. Great for a family just starting out and ideal neighborhood settings. Although it lacks a real lively nightlife that is also not necessarily a bad thing.
Coeymans is only a short drive from the major areas of Albany and is in close proximity. Though it may be out of the way a bit for college students, first time graduates might find the perfect living situation here
