ALBANY PATROONS
(Basketball)



The Albany Patroons have a storied local history from 1982-1992 in the Capital Region. They changed to the Capital Region Pontiacs for the 1992-1993 season before leaving the are alltogether after the 92-93 season. The franchise was relocated to Connecticut, where it played for 1 1/2 years as the Hartford Hellcats.

The Albany Patroons came back to the Capital Region in 2005. They play in the CBA league and home games are at the Washington Avenue Aromory. the Patroons rejoined the CBA as an expansion team with their original name, original colors (gold and kelly green).

The Patroons won league championships in 1984 and 1988, defeating the Wyoming Wildcatters for the championship both years. Phil Jackson, who would later win NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, was the Patroons' head coach in that championship season.

Other NBA coaches and players who previously played for the Albany Patroons include Rick Carlisle, Mario Elie, Vince Askew and Michael Curry.

In February 2009, the CBA announced it was abbreviating its regular season as of February 3rd. This move has put the future of the league and the Patroons in doubt
